Like PoW, it is used to validate transactions and add new blocks to the blockchain. However, miners do not configure here, but validators, of which only one is always selected for transaction verification and approval of a new block. Validators are responsible for the correctness of the verification by a pledge – the so-called stake, which is a certain number of tokens closed in the network. If they try to cheat, they may lose this pledge. The advantage is dramatically lower energy consumption compared to PoW. The disadvantage is that the entire blockchain can be re-created more easily, but even against this, protective elements already exist. PoS (Proof Of Stake).
